Some organizations use Branch to help manage their tax filing obligations with the IRS. If this is the case for your organization, you’ll be asked to complete a W-9 form before you can receive payments.
If your organization has chosen to utilize our filing services, you can anticipate receiving your tax documents to the email or mailing address associated with your Branch account within a few days after your organization submits your filing.
- For any tax-related inquiries, we advise you to get in touch with your organization.
Providing Your W-9 Information
When you submit your W-9 form to Branch, your information is securely shared with our tax filing partner, Zenwork, for verification with the IRS.
Depending on how you file your taxes, you'll be asked to provide either:
- Your legal name and SSN, or
- Your business name and EIN (if filing as a business)
Your organization may require this information to successfully match with IRS records before payouts can begin.
Failed TIN Verifications
In some cases, if your TIN verification fails, your organization may still issue payouts but apply backup withholding as required by IRS rules.
Important to Note:
- Confirm that your W-9 information matches exactly what you intend to report on your tax return. If your name, business, or tax ID changes, update your W-9 details directly in your Branch account.
Receiving Your 1099 Form
If you receive payouts through Branch and your total earnings meet the IRS filing threshold for the year, your organization will file a 1099 form through Branch. You’ll be able to access this form according to your selected delivery method:
- Email delivery (most likely): Tax forms are sent via email for most organizations with the subject line: Tax Forms - Now Available
A few select organizations allow works to update their delivery preference in the app. If this is the case for you, you'll be able to access this form according to your selected delivery method:
- Electronic delivery: View and download your 1099 directly from your Branch account.
- Paper mail delivery: Your 1099 will be mailed to the address listed on your W-9 form.

Branch is not a bank. Banking services are provided by Lead Bank, Member FDIC and Evolve Bank & Trust, Member FDIC, which are Branch’s bank partners. The name of the bank partner for your account is listed on the back of your debit card and can also be found in the Branch App under “Your Account Information”. FDIC insurance only applies to eligible accounts should the bank holding your funds fail. Branch Mastercard Debit Cards are issued by Evolve Bank & Trust or Lead Bank, Member FDIC, as applicable, pursuant to a license from Mastercard and may be used everywhere Mastercard debit cards are accepted.
