If you notice incorrect information on a 1099-NEC/K form that's already been filed or accepted, you can submit a correction directly in the Branch App. Your organization reviews and approves the correction before it's sent to the IRS.
Who can use this
This applies if your organization files 1099-NEC/K forms and collects your tax information through Branch. Correcting tax forms via self-service in the app is only available if you opted for e-delivery to receive your forms.
If you don't see the Taxes section in the Account tab of the app, your organization likely doesn't use Branch for filing 1099-NEC/K forms. Reach out to your organization for more information.
What you can correct
You can update the following on a filed 1099-NEC/K form:
- Filing type
- Your name or business name
- Your SSN or EIN
- Your home address
If the change doesn't require a new form, Branch tells you that and still updates your tax profile with the new information so it's used for future filings. If the change does require a new form, it's submitted as a correction for your organization to review.
How to submit a correction
- Open the Branch App and go to the Account tab.
- Select the Taxes section, then open the filed 1099-NEC/K form you need to correct.
- Tap the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner.
- Select Submit Correction to start the correction.
- Update the fields that need to change: filing type, name or business name, SSN or EIN, and/or home address.
- Review your changes on the Submitting form corrections screen, then tap Submit.
If your changes don't require a new form: You'll see a message confirming your information has been updated and no new form is needed. Your tax profile is updated for future filings.
If your changes do require a new form: Your correction is submitted for review, and you'll see a confirmation that it was submitted successfully.
What happens after you submit
Once submitted, the form shows a Correction pending review status while your organization reviews the request.
- If approved: You'll be notified, and the updated 1099-NEC/K form will be available in the app according to your delivery preference.
- If rejected: You won't receive a notification. The pending review status is removed from the form. If you still need the correction made, submit it again or contact your organization.
